Caregivers are the foundation of our care team.
Who hasn’t heard that “it takes a village” to raise a child? We would like to propose that, “it takes a team” to best care for an older adult with an illness or disability. The Bridgeway caregivers are such a crucial part of our care team because they are the heart and soul of what we do.
We understand that making the decision to bring someone into your loved one’s home to care for them can be challenging. That is why we take great care in properly screening, hiring, and training the most qualified candidates that embody our core values. All of our caregivers are bonded, insured, and covered by worker’s compensation. They receive ongoing support from our Caregiver Liasion and office staff to ensure that their needs are met.
Interview and Hiring Process
- Pre-hire qualification phone screen/interview
- Review of the applicant’s skills (CPR, First Aid, Healthcare experience, and more)
- Conduct a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, and MVA of driving
- In-person interview that consists of mock problem-solving scenarios
- Detailed references check
- Tuberculosis (TB) test and a flu shot are required prior to hiring
Once a qualified candidate has been invited to join the Bridgeway care team, they go through a thorough orientation that familiarizes them with our company culture, core values, and prepares them for being with our clients.
Some of the topics that are covered during orientation:
- Caregiver Code of Conduct
- HIPAA Privacy Practices
- Medication Management
- Infection Control, Safety, and Emergency Preparedness
- Client Record Documentation
- Client Rights, Ethics, and Cultural Competency
- Caring for the Elderly
- 10 Commandments of Dementia Care
